It’s that time again! Time to being thinking about July 4th activities, the smell of barbeque, the sight of children with their small American flags waving, the thought of our troops and remembering what a BLESSING it is to live in this country. No one can think of July 4th without thinking of the People’s Parade in Carrollton! Please take time to discuss building a float for this year’s parade, which will be held on July 4, 2009. It only takes a few days of work before the event, but the memories and time spent with fellow co-workers, friends, church members, and family will last a lifetime!
Each float will be assigned to one of five categories: Large Business, Small Business, Church, Civic, or Individual. First place winners will go to compete for the 5th Annual Community Spirit Award Cup. Good luck to you all!
Carrollton’s People’s Parade will begin at 10:00 am. Line-up will begin around 9:00 am and will follow the typical Dairy Queen to K-Mart route. To participate, please fill out and return the application below. June 30th you will be contacted regarding your position in the parade. In addition to your standard entry fee the first FIVE available slots (after Grand Marshall & Veteran entries) will be raffled off to the HIGHEST BIDDER. Please indicate on your entry form that you are bidding and place your bid by email to rsmithjos@hotmail.com. The deadline to bid is June 29th and No Bids will be accepted by phone. All other entries are first come first serve basis for parade participation and all entries participate at the sole discretion of the parade committee.

SAFETY ISSUES FOR 2009
General Safety Rules:
1. No alcoholic beverages permitted on parade vehicles, and this includes alcohol in containers. If any alcoholic beverages are found on a parade vehicle, it will result in the immediate expulsion of that entry from the parade.
2. No throwing of candy or other objects from vehicles. If you want to distribute candy or other items to spectators, someone from your entry must walk alongside the crowd and HAND it to them. This will be enforced.
3. Please exercise cautionary measures when using motorized vehicles. Entries that are purely commercial in nature are limited to three vehicles and will not be broken up.
4. Once you enter the line of march, there is ABSOLUTELY NO STOPPING along the parade route. AT ALL TIMES, stay at least 20-25 feet from the float or entry in front of you. Pay attention to the people in front of you. Try to keep moving and STAY together. We do not want parts of any entry lagging behind and getting mixed in with the next entry.
5. Follow the Parade to its end. The parade route will disband at Kmart.
6. Each entry is responsible for making sure his/her parade vehicles are operated in a safe manner. This includes: not endangering spectators by unsafe maneuvering of vehicles, by taking action that cause spectators to dart in front of your parade vehicles or otherwise to get in the path of your vehicles, and by having objects thrown from your parade vehicles.
7. Participants should be prepared for high humidity and temperatures; it is strongly recommended that all entries carry bottled water in plastic containers only.
Float Safety Issues:
1. All Floats to be judged MUST PLACE a star on the left front door or left back window of their vehicle. Stars will be available for pick up at Little Gem’s Barber Shop June 30th through July 2nd. (This is so the judges will know which floats are to be judged.)
2. No candy or other objects may be thrown from floats!
3. Persons riding the floats shall remain seated at all times. No standing, jumping, etc allowed if not secured by safety harness.
4. No tractors are allowed to pull floats.
5. Rear view mirrors are required on all towed or self-propelled floats.
6. Safety barrier is required when children 10 years of age and under are on the float.
7. All occupants will remain seated inside the bed of a pick-up truck and not on the fender wells; one adult for every four children is required; no more than ten individuals in the back of a pick-up truck.
8. All floats require a minimum of two adult spotters for floats with children that are 10 and under and riding. The purpose of the spotters is to alert the driver if any problems occur. These persons must walk directly along side the designated seating area on the float. Spotters may not hand out candy.
9. Because of size and placing, all semi trucks must be at the parade lineup no later than 8:00 a.m.
These Rules will be strictly enforced by a safety committee that will be stationed along the route. The purpose of these rules is to try and prevent accidents from occurring. Please respect these rules for everyone’s benefit. We want everyone to have an enjoyable, happy, and safe time at the parade. So, please help us do just that!
